CVA - a visit to trung vuong saigon - hanoi trung vuong and chu van an are always being mentioned together as if they are soul mates of each others. an undeniable fact is that half of cva '71 houston were married to trung vuong girls. as i remembered my cva days, us boys were fighting to go to trung vuong to sell Tet's school magazines. for those did not have that privilege, or simply too shy, a trip to the zoo would provide good peek at those beautiful girls from a safe distance. Ly ke duy (B3) even equipped his SS50 honda with an extra tank of gasoline for those special trips. with all due respects, we would like bring back the old memories to all cva '71 guys who had spent too much time in front of trung Vuong, or hidden in the Zoo's tapioca plants (khoai môn) to admire from afar . photos courtesy of dien & Trang. essay by tt Cuong.

this photo shows the main gate. Ðìên used to pick up his girlfriend (his wife now) here. if he arrived too early, he's contemplate with few sticks of "keo kéo", a slab or two of soft served tamarine (me ngào) on banana leaf or other goodies while waiting. Ðìên was hardly (?) paid attention to other girls around him.
| a good view from accross the street. the Zoo's tapioca plants (khoai môn) near the koi pond was the favorite place for many cva '71 guys to girl-watching while memorizing "Luc Vân Tiên" literature for class. | |
